Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has issued an emotional warning to fans in the United Kingdom, urging them to stop sharing recorded clips from a private behind-the-scenes premiere of her upcoming movie.

In a video shared on her Snapchat, the award-winning actress expressed deep frustration over the circulation of unauthorized footage online. She stressed that fans who record and upload such content are not helping to promote the film, but instead damaging it through piracy and illegal leaks.

“UK fans that have watched the behind-the-scene premiere, can you stop posting it online? Please stop posting it,” Akindele pleaded. “You’re not helping, you’re not promoting it. It’s piracy. Please delete it.”

The filmmaker revealed that the project required an enormous financial commitment, reportedly costing over a billion naira to produce. She warned that continuous leaks could hurt the movie’s commercial performance and place her under serious financial strain.

Akindele’s appeal highlights a major challenge facing the Nigerian film industry, where piracy and premature leaks continue to threaten box office success and discourage future investments. As she prepares for the official release of the film, the actress has called on fans to show genuine support by waiting for the proper cinema release instead of spreading illegal footage.

Funke Akindele, known for blockbuster productions such as Omo Ghetto: The Saga and A Tribe Called Judah, remains one of Nollywood’s most influential voices, and her message serves as a strong reminder of the damage online piracy can cause to creative work.
