Trump to Address U.N. General Assembly Amid Global Crises

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to deliver a major address at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, where world leaders will gather to confront escalating global crises, from the war in Gaza to the conflict in Ukraine. The speech comes as many question whether Washington, under Trump’s “America First” foreign policy, remains committed to leading on the international stage.

Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has reshaped U.S. foreign policy with sweeping changes. His administration has slashed foreign aid, imposed tariffs on both allies and rivals, and pursued warmer—though often unpredictable—relations with Russia. At the same time, Trump has attempted, with limited results so far, to tackle some of the world’s most persistent conflicts.

This year’s General Assembly will see around 150 heads of state and government address the chamber in New York. Trump is scheduled as the second speaker following the official opening of the session at 9 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT).

The address comes eight months into his second term, a period already defined by steep cuts to U.S. aid programs. The reductions have raised humanitarian concerns and fueled uncertainty over the United Nations’ future role, prompting Secretary-General António Guterres to push for cost-cutting and greater efficiency.

White House officials have not yet disclosed details of Trump’s speech, leaving world leaders and observers waiting to see how he will frame America’s position on pressing global issues. His remarks are expected to set the tone for a week of intense diplomacy at a time when international cooperation is under severe strain.
