A tragic shooting outside Lincoln Middle School in Berwyn, Illinois, left three people dead Tuesday afternoon, including the suspected gunman.

The incident unfolded shortly after 4 p.m., while students were still inside the school for after-school programs. More than 100 children were forced into a hard lockdown as the sound of gunfire erupted nearby.

Authorities said the violence began when two dark sedans collided on the 6400 block of 16th Street. Witnesses reported hearing nearly 20 gunshots as bullets shattered windshields and pierced windows, leaving both vehicles heavily damaged.

Police officers, who were already in the area, responded immediately to the scene. Despite their swift action, three lives were lost in the exchange of gunfire. Roads surrounding the school remained closed for hours as investigators processed the crime scene, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

The shooting has shaken the Berwyn community, with parents and residents expressing fear over violence erupting so close to a school full of children. Authorities are expected to release further details as the investigation continues.
