Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a drone strike on Israel’s Ramon Airport in the Negev, near the Red Sea city of Eilat, which left two people injured and temporarily shut down operations.
The attack took place on Sunday, targeting the arrivals hall and forcing the airport to suspend flights for about two hours. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced that the strike was part of a broader drone operation aimed at multiple sites across southern Israel.
“A drone targeted Ramon Airport, which, by Allah’s grace, directly hit the airport and caused the airport to shut down and halt air traffic,” Saree said in a statement.
He further declared that the Houthis intend to intensify their strikes on Israeli infrastructure in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. “The Yemeni Armed Forces assure all air navigation companies that the airports inside occupied Palestine are unsafe and will be continuously targeted,” he added.
The incident underscores growing regional tensions, as the Houthis, backed by Iran, expand their attacks beyond Yemen, directly linking their military operations to the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
