Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has officially announced his intention to run for president of Ireland, delivering a fiery speech in Dublin on September 4, 2025, outside the Government Buildings.

Speaking before a crowd of supporters, McGregor criticized the current political leadership, accusing those in charge of failing the Irish people. He pointed to growing homelessness among children, rising public insecurity, and declining tourism as evidence of what he called “an incompetent failure of future generations.”

“If you want to see my name on the ballot for the presidency, I urge you to contact your local county councillors today and ask them to nominate me,” McGregor urged, calling on his fan base to pressure local representatives.

Describing himself as a “master of martial combat” and a “solution-driven man,” McGregor promised action rather than empty rhetoric. He emphasized the role of councillors as the “backbone of our communities,” arguing they work harder than members of the Oireachtas, who he claimed “continue to fail this country time and again.”

McGregor also suggested he already has backing from some councillors, TDs, and senators, although no official records have yet confirmed his nominations.

The announcement marks a dramatic shift from sports to politics for McGregor, who is positioning himself as a populist challenger to Ireland’s political establishment. Whether his candidacy gains formal traction remains to be seen, but his entry into the race has already ignited widespread public debate.
