Beijing staged a grand military parade along Changan Avenue to mark the 80th anniversary of China’s victory over Japan in World War II, with President Xi Jinping presiding over the high-profile event.
The parade featured a striking aerial display, as Chinese military helicopters flew in formation above Tiananmen Square, symbolizing the People’s Liberation Army’s growing air power and coordination. On the ground, troops, armored vehicles, and missile systems highlighted the country’s latest advancements in military technology.
President Xi delivered a keynote speech from the Tiananmen rostrum before inspecting the PLA troops in a parade car. This marks the third major military parade Xi has overseen as president at Tiananmen Square, underscoring his emphasis on military modernization and national pride.
The event also drew a lineup of global leaders. Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim were among the dignitaries present, seated alongside current and former Chinese officials and generals.
China’s Victory Day parade not only honored history but also projected the nation’s strategic strength and international alliances at a time of shifting global power dynamics.
