Bhopal witnessed a dramatic protest on Monday as members of the Bharatiya Ganwarta Party staged a symbolic funeral procession for U.S. President Donald Trump. The agitation came in response to Washington’s decision to impose a 50% tariff on Indian exports, a move that has sparked anger among local political groups.

The demonstration began at Board Office Square and moved toward Jyoti Talkies, where protesters carried a symbolic body representing Trump. The effigy was later set ablaze as the crowd chanted slogans condemning the U.S. President’s policies.

Adding to the theatrics, party members distributed printed condolence messages to bystanders and announced plans for a traditional terahvi—a 13th-day mourning ritual—complete with a community feast. The event, they said, would mark the symbolic “end” of Trump’s chapter in India’s diplomatic landscape.

Speaking at the protest, Shivkant Shukla, national president of the Bhagwa Party (a faction within the Ganwarta), accused Trump of betraying India under the guise of friendship. “Donald Trump is a stain on diplomacy. While India worked to maintain strong ties with America, he chose to encourage Pakistan’s terrorism instead,” Shukla declared.

The effigy-burning and mock funeral in Bhopal underline growing frustrations in parts of India over U.S. trade policies, with critics arguing that the steep tariffs will hurt Indian businesses and strain bilateral relations.
