Severe flash flooding on Monday caused major disruption along Highway 86 near Desert Elmore Ranch by the Salton Sea in California, leaving multiple drivers stranded.
The sudden downpour overwhelmed the roadway, forcing vehicles to a standstill as rising waters made sections of the highway impassable. Emergency responders were deployed to assist motorists and ensure public safety, while authorities urged residents to avoid the area until conditions improved.
The Salton Sea region is known for its susceptibility to flooding during intense storms, and officials warned that additional rainfall could worsen road conditions in the coming days. Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes and remain cautious in low-lying areas prone to flash floods.
The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of Southern California’s desert communities to extreme weather events, which have become increasingly frequent and disruptive in recent years.
