A massive fire erupted on Monday afternoon at a warehouse in Hamburg, northern Germany, triggering multiple explosions and sending a huge plume of dark smoke across the city’s skyline.

According to local authorities, more than 100 firefighters were dispatched to the scene as emergency crews battled to contain the blaze. Several people sustained injuries, though officials confirmed the number was in the single digits.

The fire reportedly started when a vehicle parked inside the warehouse, located in Hamburg’s southeastern port area, caught fire. The flames quickly spread, igniting pressurized containers that exploded and extended the blaze to nearby warehouses.

The explosions scattered debris across the adjacent A1 highway, forcing its closure and creating traffic jams stretching over 10 kilometers. Police have sealed off the area while rescue and containment operations continue.

Local media reported that a thick column of black smoke was visible from long distances, further heightening fears among residents and travelers in the region.

The Port of Hamburg, Germany’s largest all-purpose port and the nation’s primary hub for foreign trade, has been significantly affected by the incident. Authorities have yet to provide a full assessment of the damage or the long-term impact on operations.
