A powerful explosion erupted Friday afternoon at an oil supply facility in Roseland, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, prompting an immediate emergency response and evacuation order for nearby residents.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the blast occurred around 12:50 p.m. at the Smitty’s Supply plant, triggering a large fire that continues to burn. Multiple agencies, including Louisiana State Police, are on the scene working to contain the situation.
Authorities have confirmed that, so far, no injuries have been reported. State police added that air monitoring is being conducted off-site within the designated evacuation zone. Current readings show no signs of health risks, but officials are urging residents to remain cautious and relocate until the area is declared safe.
In the wake of the explosion, local roads have been shut down. Highway 51 at Highway 10 is currently closed to traffic as emergency teams operate in the affected zone.
Officials continue to monitor the fire closely, and updates are expected as the situation develops. Residents are strongly advised to avoid the area until further notice.
