Nigerian activist and social commentator, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has taken his campaign for justice to Auchi, Edo State, where he blocked Dangote trucks from operating until the company fulfills its promise of compensation and medical support for victims of its vehicles.

In a video shared on his official Instagram page, the activist was seen alongside students of Auchi Polytechnic staging a peaceful protest. The demonstrators demanded accountability from Dangote Group, urging the company to cover medical expenses and adequately support families who have lost loved ones in accidents involving its trucks.

The protest follows the tragic case of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of reality TV star Phyna. Just six days after graduating from Auchi Polytechnic, Ruth was struck by a Dangote truck, resulting in severe injuries that led to the amputation of one of her legs. There are now growing concerns that her other leg may also be at risk.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck driver initially attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by a lecturer who witnessed the crash. The license plate was allegedly removed afterward, and the vehicle is now in police custody.

In response to the outrage, Dangote Cement released an official statement via its X (formerly Twitter) account confirming the incident. The company pledged to cover Ruth’s medical bills and provide compensation in line with its welfare policy. It also expressed its wishes for her recovery.

VeryDarkMan’s protest has reignited public debate over corporate accountability in Nigeria, especially regarding road safety and the responsibility of major companies to victims of such tragedies. For Ruth and her family, however, the priority remains timely medical support to safeguard her future.
