Hamas has agreed to a new ceasefire proposal in Gaza, where more than 22 months of war with Israel have left the territory devastated. A source within the group confirmed to AFP on Monday that Hamas, along with allied factions, had accepted the latest plan presented by mediators without requesting any amendments.
“Hamas has delivered its response to the mediators, confirming that Hamas and the factions agreed to the new ceasefire proposal without requesting any changes,” the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

A Palestinian source familiar with the negotiations told AFP that mediators are expected to announce the agreement soon and set a date for the resumption of talks. According to the source, guarantees were provided to Hamas and other factions to ensure the implementation of the agreement, along with a commitment to resume discussions aimed at achieving a permanent solution.

As of now, Israel has not issued any official response to the development. The negotiations, led by Egypt and Qatar with support from the United States, have struggled for months to secure a lasting truce. Previous efforts have repeatedly broken down, prolonging a conflict that has created one of the worst humanitarian crises in Gaza’s recent history.

Earlier on Monday, another Palestinian official revealed that mediators had proposed an initial 60-day truce, which would include the release of hostages in two phases. The proposed ceasefire is seen as a crucial step toward reducing violence and creating space for broader political dialogue.
With Gaza facing severe shortages of food, medicine, and essential services after nearly two years of war, hopes are rising that this latest initiative could ease the suffering of millions of civilians caught in the conflict.
