A tragic mass shooting shook Brooklyn early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted inside the Taste of the City Lounge, a popular hookah lounge and restaurant in Crown Heights. Authorities confirmed that three men were killed and eight others wounded in the deadly attack.
Police say the shooting broke out just before 3:30 a.m. inside the busy lounge, located less than half a mile from the Brooklyn Museum. According to New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the initial investigation suggests the violence may have been gang-related.

The victims who lost their lives—men aged 19, 27, and 35—were pronounced dead at the scene. Among the 11 victims in total, eight were men and three were women, ranging in age from 27 to 61. The eight survivors, including five men and three women, were rushed to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Commissioner Tisch revealed that at least four shooters opened fire, unleashing dozens of rounds inside the crowded lounge. Investigators recovered 42 shell casings from 9mm and .45-caliber weapons, and one firearm was found near the scene, though it remains unclear if it was used in the attack. No suspects have been named or arrested as the investigation continues.

Despite the city recording historically low shooting numbers this year, Tisch acknowledged the devastating impact of Sunday’s tragedy. “It’s a terrible shooting,” she said. “There’s no other way to describe it.”
Taste of the City Lounge, known for its American and Caribbean cuisine, hookah service, and late-night entertainment, has long been a gathering spot in the Crown Heights neighborhood. The community now mourns the sudden loss of life and anxiously awaits answers as police work to identify the shooters behind the violence.
