Jordan will host a high-level meeting on Tuesday bringing together U.S. and Syrian officials to discuss international support for rebuilding Syria after more than a decade of devastating conflict and the removal of former leader Bashar al-Assad by an Islamist-led rebellion in December.

According to a statement from Jordan’s foreign ministry, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani and U.S. envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack are expected to attend the talks, which aim to explore avenues for economic recovery and infrastructure development in the war-torn nation.

The meeting comes just days after Damascus announced the signing of 12 major investment agreements worth a total of $14 billion. These include a $4 billion deal with Qatar’s UCC Holding to construct a new international airport and a $2 billion agreement with the United Arab Emirates’ National Investment Corporation to develop a subway system in the Syrian capital.

The planned discussions in Amman are seen as a significant step in rallying regional and global partners to help restore stability and rebuild critical infrastructure in Syria following years of conflict and humanitarian crisis.
