Tensions flared in several UK cities on Saturday as Britain First led a major demonstration in Manchester under the banner of its “March for Remigration.” An estimated 500 to 600 people took part in the march through the city centre, drawing national attention and triggering a wave of related protests elsewhere in the country.

The Manchester march comes amid growing opposition to the use of hotels as temporary accommodation for asylum seekers — an issue that has sparked fierce debate across political and community lines. Protesters, waving placards and national flags, called for stricter immigration controls and the repatriation of individuals they claim are housed inappropriately at taxpayer expense.

Simultaneously, demonstrations have been reported in Islington, London, and Newcastle. In Islington, local residents gathered outside the Thistle City Barbican Hotel to protest its use in housing asylum seekers. The protest, organized under the slogan “Thistle Barbican needs to go—locals say no,” reflects broader discontent in parts of the UK where hotels have been repurposed for migrant accommodation.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) confirmed an increased police presence in Islington to manage both the protest and a planned counter-protest. Officers have imposed specific conditions on both groups in an effort to prevent unrest and ensure public safety around the hotel site.
