In a coordinated overnight operation on Saturday, August 2, Ukrainian defense forces launched successful drone strikes against several key Russian industrial facilities, including oil refineries and defense-related enterprises. The strikes mark a significant escalation in Ukraine’s military strategy, targeting the infrastructure believed to be fueling Russia’s ongoing aggression.

According to a statement from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the attacks were aimed at “verified Russian targets” supporting the war effort against Ukraine. The strikes were described as a direct response to recent Russian shelling of Ukrainian cities, which resulted in multiple civilian casualties and injuries.

Confirmed targets included the Novokuybyshevsk and Ryazan oil refineries, both critical to Russia’s fuel processing capabilities.

In addition, Ukrainian drones reportedly struck the Anna Nefteproduct fuel and lubricants base in Russia’s Voronezh region and the Penza-based PJSC Production Association Elektroprylad, a key supplier of secure telecommunications systems, military-grade cryptographic devices, and printed circuit boards used in Russian defense equipment.

“Numerous explosions and fires have been recorded on the territory of these facilities,” the Ukrainian military said, noting that the full extent of the damage is still being assessed. Eyewitness reports and satellite images suggest significant disruption at the impacted sites, although Russian officials have yet to release a comprehensive statement.

The operation was jointly executed by Ukraine’s UAV Forces, Special Operations Forces, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense. This multi-agency effort underscores Kyiv’s growing reliance on precision drone warfare and strategic intelligence coordination to counter Russia’s deep-rooted military infrastructure.

“The defense forces are taking all lawful measures to stop the genocide of our people, which the Moscow regime is deliberately carrying out today,” the General Staff emphasized. They also warned that targeted strikes on facilities contributing to the Russian military effort will continue until the war is brought to an end.

As the conflict grinds on, Ukraine’s latest drone campaign demonstrates its evolving capabilities and willingness to carry the battle deeper into Russian territory — targeting not just frontline forces but the industrial and logistical backbone behind them.
