Three Hamas operatives emerged from a tunnel and surrendered to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops in the town of Beit Hanoun, signaling what the IDF describes as the defeat of Hamas’s battalion in the area.
The surrender took place earlier today when the three militants, reportedly part of a larger group, approached soldiers from the Givati Brigade. According to the IDF, the operatives stated they had attempted to flee following an earlier exchange of fire in which another Hamas gunman was killed.
Upon surrender, the operatives led Israeli forces to a hidden weapons depot near the tunnel entrance. The cache included a variety of weapons and military-grade equipment. Further inspection of the tunnel revealed long-term supplies such as food, water, and other essentials — indicating that the tunnel was designed to support extended underground stays, likely for both combat and evasion.

The IDF confirmed that the surrendered operatives have been taken into custody for further interrogation. Meanwhile, combat engineers have begun mapping the tunnel infrastructure in preparation for its demolition.
“The Beit Hanoun Battalion, which posed a threat to Nir Am and Sderot, has surrendered and been defeated by Givati Brigade troops,” the IDF announced in an official statement.

The fall of this battalion marks a strategic gain for Israeli forces in their ongoing campaign against Hamas in Gaza. Beit Hanoun, a key stronghold near the northeastern border with Israel, has been the site of frequent hostilities and rocket fire aimed at Israeli communities.
