U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern condemnation of Russia’s actions in Ukraine, describing President Vladimir Putin’s conduct as “disgusting” and “disgraceful.” The sharp rebuke came during a press briefing at the White House on Thursday, where Trump addressed escalating tensions between Moscow and Kyiv.
Trump criticized what he called Russia’s continued aggression and unjustifiable strikes in Ukraine. “What Putin is doing in Ukraine is disgraceful. It’s disgusting. We are watching it closely,” Trump said from the Oval Office.

The President announced that the U.S. is prepared to impose significant sanctions on Russia if a diplomatic resolution is not reached soon. He has given the Kremlin a deadline of August 8 to make progress toward a peace deal or face economic repercussions.

“I don’t know if sanctions will make him change course,” Trump admitted, “but he has until August 8 to make a deal. If not, we’ll respond with pressure—serious pressure.”

Trump’s remarks follow weeks of intensified Russian military action in Ukraine, with civilian casualties mounting and international condemnation growing. The White House is reportedly in discussions with NATO allies to coordinate potential sanctions, should the Kremlin fail to de-escalate the conflict.

The Biden administration had previously imposed sanctions during the early phases of the war, but Trump’s administration has indicated it may go further, targeting more sectors of the Russian economy, including energy and finance.
