Devastating new drone footage has emerged showing the extensive damage inflicted on the port of Severo-Kurilsk, located in Russia’s remote Kuril Islands, after tsunami waves slammed the region. The powerful waves were triggered by the massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.

The aerial visuals reveal a grim scene—swamped infrastructure, overturned vessels, and severely damaged port facilities. Once a bustling maritime hub, Severo-Kurilsk now bears the marks of nature’s fury, with large sections of the port submerged or swept away entirely.

Emergency teams are on the ground assessing the full extent of the destruction, while local authorities have begun evacuation and relief efforts for affected residents. The port, critical for regional fishing and supply routes, is expected to take a significant amount of time to recover.

The earthquake, which originated about 136 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, has sent tsunami waves across the Pacific Rim, prompting alerts in Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hawaii, Alaska, and along the U.S. West Coast. Severo-Kurilsk was among the first areas hit, and the destruction there underscores the force and reach of the tsunami.

As officials continue to monitor the seismic activity and aftershocks, residents are being urged to stay alert and follow emergency guidelines. The situation remains fluid, with weather and geological agencies tracking wave movements and assessing risks to other coastal regions.
