Tragedy in Midtown Manhattan: Gunman Kills Four in Skyscraper Shooting (VIDEO)

A quiet Monday evening in Midtown Manhattan turned into a nightmare when a gunman stormed a Park Avenue skyscraper, killing four people—including a New York City police officer—before turning the weapon on himself.

The attacker, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas, entered the high-rise office building around 6:30 p.m. ET wielding an assault-style rifle. He opened fire in the lobby, killing NYPD officer Didarul Islam, 36, who was working security at the time.

Tamura then took an elevator to the 33rd floor and continued his deadly rampage, claiming the lives of three more individuals whose identities have not yet been released. Authorities say Tamura had driven cross-country from Las Vegas and was known to have a history of mental health issues. Investigators are still searching for a clear motive behind the massacre.

Witnesses described scenes of panic as gunfire rang out through the building. Office workers barricaded themselves behind furniture, some using chairs and couches to block doors while hiding under desks. Outside, pedestrians fled in fear as police issued active shooter alerts.

The building houses the headquarters of the National Football League (NFL) and major corporations including Blackstone and KPMG, heightening the shock and scale of the incident.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that Tamura acted alone and that a fifth victim remains in critical but stable condition. In a press conference, she paid tribute to Officer Didarul Islam, who leaves behind a wife, two children, and a third on the way.

“He was doing the job we asked him to do. He made the ultimate sacrifice,” Tisch said solemnly. Local leaders and NYPD officials hailed Islam as a hero who died protecting others.

According to initial reports, Tamura shot Islam upon entering the building, then targeted a woman who sought refuge behind a pillar. He proceeded to spray the lobby with bullets, hitting multiple victims, including a security guard behind a desk and another man nearby.
