Flash Flooding Hits Vado, New Mexico: Over 600 Homes Affected as Emergency Crews Respond

A powerful rainstorm triggered flash flooding in Vado, New Mexico, overnight, prompting urgent search-and-rescue operations and widespread emergency response. According to the Doña Ana County Government Center, hundreds of homes have been impacted, with residents facing rising water levels and utility disruptions.

As floodwaters inundated neighborhoods and overwhelmed local infrastructure, emergency crews quickly mobilized to assist those trapped or displaced by the deluge. The Vado Community Center, located at 180 La Fe Ave., has been converted into an emergency evacuation shelter, offering temporary refuge to those forced from their homes.

Local authorities report that more than 600 homes have been affected by the flooding, with damage ranging from minor intrusion to significant property loss. While no fatalities or life-threatening injuries have been confirmed at this time, officials continue to monitor the situation closely.

Residents experiencing non-critical flooding or utility-related issues have been advised to contact the non-emergency dispatch line at (575) 526-0795 for assistance.

In an effort to ensure public safety, New Mexico State Police have shut down multiple roads in and out of Vado to prevent motorists from encountering dangerous conditions, including deep, standing water. Drivers are urged to avoid travel in the area until further notice.
