Israeli leadership has outlined its current strategy in Syria, emphasizing a firm stance on protecting the Druze population and enforcing a demilitarized buffer zone south of Damascus. This declaration comes in the wake of recent Israeli airstrikes targeting Syrian military positions, which reportedly led to a retreat of regime forces and the establishment of a new ceasefire.
“We have a clear policy,” the statement began. “First, the demilitarization of the region south of Damascus — stretching from the Golan Heights to the Druze mountain. Second, the protection of our brothers’ brothers, the Druze community in that region.”

According to the briefing, both of these principles were violated when the Syrian regime deployed military forces into the designated demilitarized zone and began attacks against the Druze population. In response, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), under direct orders, launched a significant military operation targeting both Syrian troops and their armored vehicles.

“The Air Force acted forcefully,” the statement added, noting that one of the strikes specifically targeted Syria’s Ministry of Defense in Damascus — a powerful signal of Israel’s readiness to escalate when red lines are crossed.

Following the IDF operation, a ceasefire came into effect, and Syrian forces were reported to have pulled back to positions within Damascus. Israeli officials stressed that this truce was achieved not through negotiations or concessions but through decisive and overwhelming military strength.

“This is peace through strength, not through pleading,” the statement continued. “We are pursuing security through strength — on seven fronts.” Looking ahead, Israeli leadership reaffirmed its policy: the Syrian army will not be allowed to re-enter the demilitarized zone south of Damascus, and any harm to the Druze community will not be tolerated.
