Pop superstar Katy Perry experienced a frightening moment on stage Friday night during her “Lifetimes Tour” stop at the Chase Center in San Francisco, when a massive butterfly prop she was performing on suddenly malfunctioned midair.

While belting out her hit single “Roar” atop the suspended butterfly structure, the prop unexpectedly dropped several feet — hovering directly above the crowd — before stabilizing. Multiple videos posted on social media platform captured the moment, showing Perry momentarily startled as the contraption lurched downward.

Despite the near-miss, the 40-year-old singer quickly regained her balance, paused briefly, and then continued the performance without missing a beat. The dramatic mishap occurred during the final segment of the concert, which Perry completed without further issue.

Fans in attendance applauded her professionalism and composure, while many online praised her for handling the potentially dangerous situation with grace and control.

Perry later appeared to subtly acknowledge the incident on Instagram, sharing a screenshot of her reaction as the prop dropped, captioned with a lighthearted “Good Night San Fran.”

While no injuries were reported, the moment serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of live performance — especially with elaborate stage setups. Still, Perry’s resilience once again proved why she remains one of pop’s most enduring live entertainers.
