Myanmar’s People’s Defence Force (PDF) fighters launched a surprise ambush on junta troops in the town of Kanbalu, located in the conflict-ridden Sagaing region. The attack reportedly took place while junta soldiers were purchasing liquor, catching them off guard.

According to local sources, the resistance fighters disguised themselves using a dump truck, allowing them to approach the scene without raising suspicion. Once in position, they launched their assault, delivering a clear message that anti-junta forces remain active and unpredictable, even in areas where military presence is strong.

Sagaing has been one of the epicenters of armed resistance against Myanmar’s military regime, which seized power in a coup in 2021. The PDF, formed in response to the coup, continues to carry out guerrilla-style attacks as part of a broader campaign to challenge military control and restore democratic rule.

This latest incident highlights the evolving tactics of Myanmar’s resistance groups, who are increasingly using unconventional strategies to strike at military forces. The use of a civilian vehicle like a dump truck not only helped conceal their intentions but also demonstrated the creative and resourceful nature of the grassroots movement.
