A fireworks storage facility in Yolo County, California erupted in a fiery explosion Tuesday evening, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky and forcing emergency officials to establish a one-mile evacuation zone around the site.
The dramatic blast, which was captured on a live broadcast, occurred just before 6 p.m. near County Road 23 and County Road 86A in the rural community of Esparto.
According to the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, the facility involved in the incident is a business that specializes in importing and exporting both consumer and commercial-grade fireworks. Following the explosion, residents in the area were urged to leave immediately as fire crews worked to contain the rapidly spreading flames.

“We urge everyone to avoid the area so that fire crews and emergency responders can safely do their work,” the sheriff’s office stated in a public advisory.
The intense fire triggered multiple spot fires in the surrounding fields, ultimately burning approximately 80 acres before it was brought under control. Emergency responders from across the county were deployed to the scene, working into the night to manage flare-ups and ensure public safety.
