In a move that bridges the worlds of basketball and football, Dallas Mavericks Head Coach Jason Kidd has officially stepped into the English Premier League—this time, not as a player or coach, but as a club owner.

Kidd has joined the ownership group of Everton Football Club through an investment facilitated by Roundhouse Capital Holdings, a subsidiary of The Friedkin Group.

The announcement was confirmed by the club this week, marking the Basketball Hall of Famer’s first foray into football ownership, all while continuing his coaching duties with the Mavericks.

“I’m honored to be joining Everton’s ownership at such an important moment,” Kidd said in a statement released by the club. “With a new stadium on the horizon and a bright future ahead, it’s a great moment to come on board.”

Everton Executive Chairman Marc Watts echoed the enthusiasm, highlighting Kidd’s stature both on and off the court. “As one of the NBA’s greatest players and now a successful coach, his knowledge and winning mentality will be an incredible resource for Everton,” Watts said.

“He is a respected leader and household name for many sports fans and will bring a deeper understanding of high performance as we collectively strive to build a brighter future for this storied club.”

Kidd’s involvement comes as part of The Friedkin Group’s broader acquisition of Everton, joining a growing list of American investors who have found a foothold in English football.

From Stan Kroenke at Arsenal to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s high-profile takeover at Wrexham, the influence of American ownership is increasingly shaping the Premier League and beyond.

On the pitch, it’s been another challenging season for the Toffees. With just eight wins in 33 league matches, Everton currently sits 13th in the table—though comfortably 17 points clear of the relegation zone. There’s still room to climb, with crucial fixtures against Chelsea (April 25) and Ipswich Town (May 2) on the horizon.

As the club eyes a new era, both in infrastructure and ambition, the addition of a figure like Jason Kidd could signal a culture shift at Goodison Park—one rooted in elite performance and long-term vision.
