Chelsea has been presented with the opportunity to re-sign Fikayo Tomori, talented 27-year-old defender and product of Chelsea’s esteemed youth academy.
After leaving Stamford Bridge in 2021 for a fresh start with Serie A giants AC Milan, Tomori initially flourished in Italy. However, recent developments suggest his time at the San Siro may be nearing an end, with speculation mounting about a potential return to the Premier League—and possibly to Chelsea.
Tomori’s journey at AC Milan began with great promise. His move offered a chance to establish himself in one of Europe’s top leagues after struggling to secure a consistent spot in Chelsea’s senior squad. At first, the defender appeared to have found his stride, becoming an integral part of Milan’s backline.

However, this season has taken a different turn. Over the last ten Serie A matches, Tomori has managed just 13 minutes of playing time—a stark contrast to the regularity he once enjoyed. This lack of opportunities has reportedly left the England international questioning his future at the club.

The situation has been compounded by changes in Milan’s managerial setup. Following the departure of former manager Paulo Fonseca, new head coach Sergio Conceição has shaken up the team dynamics, leaving several players, including Tomori, unsure of their roles.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this saga is the possibility of Tomori returning to Chelsea. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri in his column for Sky Sport CH, the defender has been offered to his former club, among others, as he looks to reignite his career.
For Chelsea, bringing back Tomori would strengthen their defensive options, but the move comes with conditions. To make room for the centre-back, the Blues would need to offload one of their current defenders, with Axel Disasi reportedly the most likely candidate to depart.

The financial and logistical considerations surrounding the move will play a critical role in determining whether Tomori can make a triumphant return to the Premier League.
While Chelsea contemplates its options, Juventus has emerged as a strong contender for Tomori’s signature. The Turin-based club is keen to bolster its defensive line in the January transfer window and has reportedly identified Tomori as a prime target.
Juventus is prepared to spend between €25-30 million (£21m-£25m/$26m-$31m) to secure the centre-back’s services, a figure that could tempt Milan to part ways with him.
