Nigeria is rapidly positioning itself as a global frontrunner in the adoption of artificial intelligence, particularly in learning, work, and entrepreneurship, according to a new joint report by Google and Ipsos.
The findings were disclosed on Tuesday in a statement issued by Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade. The report, titled “Our Life with AI: Helpfulness in the Hands of More People,” highlights Nigeria as one of the most enthusiastic and forward-looking countries when it comes to embracing AI-powered technologies.
According to the report, 88 percent of Nigerian adults have used an AI chatbot, marking an 18-point increase from 2024 and placing the country well above the global average of 62 percent. The data suggests that AI adoption in Nigeria is not only widespread but accelerating at an exceptional pace.
Kola-Ogunlade described the findings as a reflection of how Nigerians are actively shaping their future with technology. He noted that AI is being used creatively and purposefully across the country to drive learning, professional growth, and economic empowerment, rather than merely as a novelty.
The report shows that AI has become a powerful tool for education and career development in Nigeria. About 93 percent of Nigerian users rely on AI to better understand complex topics, compared to a global average of 74 percent. In the workplace, 91 percent of Nigerians said they use AI tools to support their daily tasks, underscoring the technology’s growing role in productivity and efficiency.
Entrepreneurship also stands out as a key area of impact. The study found that 80 percent of Nigerians have used AI to explore new business ideas or consider career changes, nearly double the global average of 42 percent. This highlights AI’s role as a catalyst for innovation and self-employment in Africa’s largest economy.
Optimism about the future of artificial intelligence is especially strong in Nigeria. The report revealed that 91 percent of Nigerians believe AI has a positive impact on education and access to information, compared to 65 percent globally. An overwhelming 95 percent also believe that university students and educators stand to benefit significantly from AI tools.
Overall sentiment toward AI in Nigeria is notably positive. While many countries remain cautious, 80 percent of Nigerians expressed excitement about AI’s potential, with only a small fraction voicing concern. Among frequent AI users, enthusiasm rises even further, reaching 90 percent.
The Google–Ipsos report paints a picture of a country not just adopting artificial intelligence, but integrating it deeply into everyday life. As Nigeria continues to harness AI for learning, work, and entrepreneurship, the findings suggest it is emerging as a global model for how technology can be used to drive inclusive growth and opportunity.
