Nigerian Navy Discovers 40,000 Litres of Suspected Crude Oil in Delta State

The Nigerian Navy has uncovered a large quantity of substance suspected to be crude oil stored in an underground reservoir in Delta State.

According to the Navy, approximately 40,000 litres of suspected crude oil were discovered in a large dugout reservoir in the Oteghele general area of Delta State. The discovery was made during an operation targeting activities linked to oil theft and illegal crude oil handling in the area.

The suspected crude oil was reportedly found concealed in a specially dug reservoir, highlighting the methods allegedly used by criminal networks to store and move stolen petroleum products.

The Navy’s operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle crude oil theft, illegal oil bunkering and other activities affecting Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

Oil theft remains a major challenge for Nigeria, particularly in the oil-producing Niger Delta region. Security agencies have continued to conduct operations aimed at identifying illegal refining sites, storage facilities and other infrastructure allegedly used in the illicit oil trade.

The latest discovery in Delta State adds to those efforts, with the Nigerian Navy working to prevent the illegal exploitation of the country’s oil resources. Authorities are expected to provide further details on the operation and any arrests or investigations connected to the discovery.
