Nigeria, US Hold High-Level Talks on Security and Religious Freedom in Washington

Nigeria and the United States are holding high-level discussions in Washington on security and religious freedom, following the Trump administration’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over concerns about religious freedom.

The talks bring Nigerian and US officials together at a sensitive time for bilateral relations, with security challenges and the protection of religious communities expected to feature prominently in the discussions.

The United States’ designation places additional international attention on Nigeria’s handling of religious freedom and its response to violence affecting communities across the country.
