Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved ₦25 billion for the construction of modern residential quarters for judges, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of judicial officers and strengthening the justice system.
The approval was announced after the State Executive Council meeting held in Owerri, where the governor also sanctioned ₦1.9 billion for the establishment of new Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and endorsed a smart digital signage initiative aimed at modernising the state’s infrastructure.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said the council approved the construction of 40 duplexes for judges, complete with recreational facilities designed to provide a comfortable and secure living environment for members of the judiciary.
According to Emelumba, the project reflects the government’s determination to enhance the working and living conditions of judicial officers while supporting the effective administration of justice in Imo State.
The Executive Council also approved the establishment of four Computer-Based Test centres across the Orlu Zone to improve access to examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and other computer-based testing bodies.
Of the approved ₦1.9 billion budget for the CBT project, ₦900 million will be released immediately to begin work on two pilot centres located at Bishop Shanahan Okoye Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Omuma.
In another major development, the state government approved the creation of Imo Signage Asset Management Limited, a new company that will oversee the deployment and regulation of smart digital billboards across the state through a public-private partnership.
Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Chimezie Amadi, explained that the digital signage project would be fully financed by private investors, ensuring that the initiative comes at no financial cost to the Imo State Government.
He added that the project will utilise Internet of Things (IoT) technology to create a modern, digitally managed advertising ecosystem capable of improving urban management and generating new economic opportunities.
The latest approvals form part of the Uzodimma administration’s broader agenda to modernise public infrastructure, strengthen key institutions, expand digital transformation, and improve service delivery across Imo State.
