Rockstar Games has officially revealed the pricing for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), confirming that the highly anticipated title will retail for $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in the United States.
The announcement came as pre-orders opened worldwide at midnight local time, giving millions of eager fans the opportunity to secure a copy ahead of the game’s highly anticipated launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
In the United Kingdom, the Standard Edition will sell for £69.99, while the premium edition will cost £89.99, making GTA 6 one of the most expensive major video game releases to date.
Beyond the pricing, Rockstar also confirmed a major change that has sparked discussion within the gaming community. Physical editions of GTA 6 will not include a game disc. Instead, buyers will receive a boxed package containing a digital download code that allows them to install the game online.
The move has generated mixed reactions among fans. While some players appreciate the convenience of digital downloads, others have questioned the value of purchasing a physical edition without an actual disc.
Many collectors have expressed disappointment, arguing that physical copies traditionally serve as memorabilia and can also be resold or shared after use. With the new approach, questions have emerged about whether owners will be able to transfer or resell their game once the digital code has been redeemed.
Gaming journalist Vic Hood described the Standard Edition’s price as relatively reasonable considering the scale of the project but noted that the absence of a physical disc could frustrate collectors who prefer traditional boxed editions.
She also suggested that Rockstar’s decision makes business sense, as digital codes help reduce second-hand sales, limit unauthorized reselling, and minimize the risk of game leaks before launch.
GTA 6 has long been regarded as one of the most anticipated video games in history, with industry analysts suggesting it could also become one of the most expensive games ever developed. The title is expected to build on the massive success of Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold well over 200 million copies since its release and remains one of the best-selling video games of all time.
Despite the increase in price, many fans appear more focused on the gameplay experience than the cost. The Standard Edition is priced just $10 higher than the $70 launch price that has become common for recent blockbuster releases, and early reactions suggest most players consider the increase acceptable given the game’s expected scale and production quality.
With pre-orders now underway and anticipation continuing to build, GTA 6 is widely expected to dominate the gaming industry when it launches later this year. As Rockstar prepares for one of the biggest entertainment releases in recent memory, fans around the world are counting down to what could become another record-breaking chapter in the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
