Harry Maguire Speaks Out on Amorim’s Exit from Manchester United

Harry Maguire has spoken candidly about his relationship with Ruben Amorim following the manager’s departure from Manchester United, offering a supportive perspective despite the club’s struggles during Amorim’s tenure.

Amorim’s time at Old Trafford came to an end in January after a difficult 14-month spell that saw the team record 24 wins in 63 matches. His period in charge was marked by intense scrutiny, with critics often questioning his tactical decisions and team selections as results failed to meet expectations.

However, Maguire has made it clear that his personal experience under the Portuguese coach was largely positive. Reflecting on their working relationship, the England international revealed that he featured regularly when fit and found Amorim to be both supportive and forward-thinking in his approach.

While acknowledging that things did not go according to plan at Manchester United, Maguire insisted that the outcome should not overshadow Amorim’s potential as a manager. He expressed confidence that the coach’s ideas, though unsuccessful at the club, could thrive in a different environment.

The defender also disclosed that he reached out to Amorim after his departure, noting that the manager handled the situation with professionalism and wished the squad well. Maguire highlighted Amorim’s relatively young age as a key factor, suggesting that he still has ample time to grow and succeed at the highest level of football management.

Importantly, Maguire did not place the blame solely on the former manager. Instead, he pointed to the players’ role in the team’s struggles, admitting that the squad must take significant responsibility for failing to deliver on the pitch. According to him, the inability to fully execute the manager’s vision contributed to the disappointing results.

Despite the challenges, Maguire credited Amorim with laying a foundation for the future, particularly in terms of building a balanced and competitive squad. He believes the work done behind the scenes deserves recognition, even if it did not translate into immediate success.

As Manchester United continues its search for stability, Maguire’s comments offer a reminder that football success is often shaped by a combination of leadership, execution, and timing—and that even difficult chapters can lay the groundwork for future progress.
