Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Indian startups to set their sights on global leadership in emerging technologies and futuristic innovation, as the Startup India Mission marked its 10th anniversary.
Speaking at the milestone event on Friday, the Prime Minister said the next decade must be about building on the momentum already created and positioning India at the forefront of global startup trends.
Reflecting on the progress made since the launch of Startup India, Modi praised indigenous startups for their strong performance in the digital and service sectors. He noted that Indian entrepreneurs have demonstrated creativity, resilience, and the ability to scale solutions not just for domestic needs but also for international markets.
However, the Prime Minister stressed that the focus in the coming years must expand beyond services. He called on startups to play a much bigger role in manufacturing and deep technology, saying this shift is crucial for job creation and for integrating Indian companies more deeply into the global value chain.
According to Modi, the next phase of India’s startup journey should be driven by innovation that solves real-world problems and results in world-class products. He encouraged entrepreneurs to work on new ideas, develop cutting-edge technologies, and build products that meet the highest global quality standards.
“Our goal should be that in the next ten years, India leads the world in new startup trends and futuristic technologies,” the Prime Minister said, outlining an ambitious vision for the country’s innovation ecosystem.
Modi emphasized that a stronger manufacturing-focused startup ecosystem would not only boost self-reliance but also help India emerge as a global hub for advanced technologies. He added that startups have a vital role to play in shaping the future economy by creating employment opportunities at home while competing successfully on the world stage.
As Startup India enters its second decade, the Prime Minister’s message was clear: Indian startups must think bigger, innovate deeper, and aim higher. By combining technology, manufacturing, and problem-solving at scale, he said, India can position itself as a global leader in the startup and innovation landscape.
