Mexican Businessman Alberto Prieto Killed by Cartel After Refusing to Pay Protection Fee

Mexican businessman Alberto Prieto was brutally assassinated by a criminal cartel after reportedly refusing to pay a protection fee, authorities confirmed. The attack, which has shocked the local business community, underscores the escalating violence linked to organized crime in Mexico.

Prieto was ambushed while in his luxury vehicle, a Lamborghini Urus, which was reportedly struck more than 200 times by gunfire during the attack. Law enforcement officials said the assault appeared to be a targeted execution carried out by cartel members, sending a stark warning to others in the region who might resist extortion demands.

The incident has intensified concerns about the safety of entrepreneurs and business owners in areas plagued by cartel activity, highlighting the ongoing challenges Mexican authorities face in combating organized crime. Investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the assassination.

Prieto’s death comes amid a broader surge in cartel-related violence across Mexico, where extortion, kidnappings, and targeted killings of business figures have become increasingly common.
