Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been appointed as the new captain of Nigeria’s national football team, marking a significant leadership transition for one of Africa’s most decorated sides.
The announcement was confirmed on Friday via the official Super Eagles social media handle, which described the appointment as a moment of pride and responsibility for the Beşiktaş star as Nigeria prepares for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. Ndidi takes over the captaincy at a crucial time, with the three-time African champions targeting continental success.
Reacting to the news, Ndidi expressed deep gratitude and a strong sense of duty, describing the role as “everything” to him. The former Leicester City midfielder acknowledged the weight of the responsibility but emphasized the importance of unity within the squad and technical crew.
