Maduro Declares “2026 Has Already Begun” as Venezuela Launches New National Plan

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has stirred widespread debate after signing a decree declaring that the year 2026 has officially begun in Venezuela, even though the global calendar remains firmly in 2025.

Speaking during the announcement, Maduro boldly stated, “2026 has already begun, today is already 2026,” framing the declaration as part of his newly unveiled “Plan 2026.” According to the president, the move is symbolic and strategic, designed to signal an early start to policies he says will shape Venezuela’s future.

Maduro explained that the early declaration reflects his belief that the actions being taken now are laying the groundwork for the year ahead. “Everything we do right now will allow us to start the first of January at full speed, building a peaceful and prosperous homeland,” he said.

The decree has drawn mixed reactions, with supporters interpreting it as a motivational political message aimed at accelerating reforms, while critics see it as another controversial statement from the embattled leader amid Venezuela’s ongoing economic and political challenges.

Despite the unconventional announcement, Maduro insists that Plan 2026 represents a roadmap for stability, development, and national renewal, as his government seeks to project confidence and momentum heading into the coming year.
