Tension reached a boiling point outside the Islamabad High Court on Monday as large crowds gathered in a show of defiance, chanting “Aazadi!” while demanding the immediate release and protection of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The demonstration, seen as a direct challenge to Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir, drew hundreds of passionate supporters who pressed parliamentarians to act urgently amid growing concerns about Khan’s well-being.

Imran Khan, who has been held at Adiala Prison since August 2023, remains at the center of Pakistan’s deepening political conflict.

Earlier this year, he and his wife received 14-year and 7-year prison sentences in a corruption case that both claim was engineered to block his political resurgence. The former premier insists that the dozens of charges brought against him are politically motivated and meant to sideline him permanently.

The charged atmosphere outside the court reflected the frustration and unrest brewing across the country. Protesters chanted, waved banners, and called for immediate intervention, insisting that Khan’s incarceration has become a symbol of political suppression.

As security forces tightened control around the court premises, demonstrators vowed to continue their push until he is released or granted adequate protection.
