The U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has awarded Boeing a contract worth approximately $877.7 million to build new MH-47G Block II heavy-lift helicopters, part of a sweeping effort to modernize the U.S. Army’s special operations aviation fleet.
Under the agreement, Boeing will manufacture the advanced aircraft at its facilities, with scheduled deliveries extending through the end of 2030. This multi-year deal underscores Washington’s commitment to enhancing its special operations capabilities in response to evolving global mission demands.
The MH-47G Block II is a specialized variant of the iconic CH-47 Chinook, tailor-made for elite U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) units. This upgraded platform features a reinforced airframe, redesigned fuel tanks for extended range, and state-of-the-art avionics. Together, these enhancements significantly improve performance and survivability in complex operational environments.
Engineered for versatility, the MH-47G excels in high-stakes tasks such as infiltration and exfiltration missions, aerial refueling, and command-and-control operations. Its enhanced configuration ensures reliability and operational readiness even in demanding terrains and contested zones.
