The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of the 38 worshippers who were abducted last Tuesday during a violent attack at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area. The attack, which left three people dead, sparked widespread concern and intensified security operations across the region.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced the victims’ freedom in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Sunday. Although the government did not provide details on how the abductees were rescued, it revealed that their release followed several days of coordinated efforts by security agencies and government representatives.

According to the statement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu played a pivotal role in securing the victims’ freedom. The governor expressed deep gratitude, noting that the President personally intervened and ordered heightened security action after the attack.

The statement added that President Tinubu even canceled his planned trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa to focus on the security breaches in both Kwara and Kebbi States. His swift directives reportedly contributed significantly to the rescue of the abducted worshippers.

Governor AbdulRazaq praised the dedication of security operatives and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace across Kwara State. The community of Eruku, still mourning the loss of three members killed during the attack, welcomed the news of the survivors’ release with relief and gratitude.

The state government is expected to provide further updates as the rescued worshippers undergo medical checks, counseling, and reunification with their families.
