Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford is likely to miss the club’s first La Liga match at the newly renovated Nou Camp after falling ill ahead of the weekend fixture.

Head coach Hansi Flick confirmed during Friday’s pre-match press conference that Rashford is battling a fever and is unlikely to feature in Saturday’s clash against Athletic Club.

“I doubt he’ll be able to play tomorrow,” Flick told reporters, noting that the club will assess his condition but preparations are being made without him.

Rashford, 28, has been one of Barcelona’s standout performers this season, featuring in all 16 matches and starting 13. With six goals and nine assists, he currently holds the highest direct goal contributions in the squad. He also represented England during the November World Cup qualifiers and appeared as a substitute in their recent 2–0 win over Albania.

Despite Rashford’s likely absence, Flick had some positive updates. Brazilian winger Raphinha is set to return to the bench after being sidelined since September with a hamstring injury.

“I’m very happy that Raphinha is back,” Flick said. “I don’t know if he’ll play 10 or 15 minutes, but he’ll start on the bench.”

Meanwhile, teenage star Lamine Yamal is expected to be available after withdrawing from Spain’s squad during the international break. Pedri, however, remains unavailable as he continues his recovery.

Barcelona will now rely on their squad depth as they aim to kick off their Nou Camp return with a strong performance, even as they await Rashford’s recovery.
