Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi has been officially named the 2025 African Footballer of the Year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), celebrating a landmark season for both club and country.

This marks the first time the Paris Saint-Germain defender has won the continent’s highest individual football honor, chosen by a panel of experts and leading African sports journalists.

Hakimi’s rise to the top comes off the back of one of the most impressive campaigns of his career. The 27-year-old right-back was instrumental in PSG’s dominance last season, helping the French giants secure a remarkable quadruple: the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions.

His individual brilliance also earned him a sixth-place finish in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, reinforcing his status as one of the world’s top defenders.

Across more than 3,400 minutes of football this season, Hakimi contributed significantly on both ends of the pitch. He delivered 6 goals and 4 assists in Ligue 1, alongside 5 goals and 4 assists during PSG’s Champions League campaign. His defensive impact was equally notable, playing a key role in 10 clean sheets across competitions.

Hakimi’s performances earned him well-deserved recognition in multiple elite teams, including the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season, the Ligue 1 Team of the Season, and the CAF Team of the Year.

The award cements Hakimi’s place among Africa’s football legends, marking a milestone moment in what has been a truly exceptional career trajectory.
