Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has spoken candidly about the emotional challenges she has faced since joining English Women’s Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
In a heartfelt revelation during Nike and VERSUS’ “Nothing Off the Table” film series, Nnadozie admitted that adapting to life in England has been far from easy, despite her growing success on the pitch.
“It has not really been easy because people just see you come out on the field to play; they don’t know the struggles behind,” the 23-year-old said.
The Nigerian shot-stopper revealed that loneliness has taken a toll on her since moving away from her family and familiar environment. “Since I moved to Brighton, every day I cry because I feel lonely. I miss my family, my teammates, and coaches. They always try to check up on me to make sure I’m okay,” she shared.
Despite the emotional strain, Nnadozie expressed gratitude to her new club for their support in helping her adjust. “I think the most important thing is having people who really care about you. That has helped me a lot, and going to the pre-season with the team also helped me. The unity, everything I saw in the team was really good,” she added.
Widely regarded as one of the best female goalkeepers in the world, Nnadozie joined Brighton ahead of the new season from Paris FC, where she made her mark with outstanding performances in France’s Division 1 Féminine and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Her openness offers a glimpse into the emotional realities behind professional football — the unseen side of an athlete’s journey that goes beyond the glory of matchdays.
