Liverpool legend and football pundit Jamie Carragher has once again criticised Arne Slot’s Liverpool, insisting the team’s current style of play resembles “basketball” rather than football.

Carragher’s comments come after Liverpool suffered their third consecutive defeat in a week, with a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday adding to the mounting pressure on Slot ahead of the international break.

The former Liverpool defender had previously questioned Slot’s tactical approach earlier in the season, even after the Reds’ opening-day victory against Bournemouth, when he noted how defensively open the team looked.

Speaking after the midweek loss to Galatasaray, Carragher didn’t hold back in his analysis, saying: “Liverpool aren’t playing football at the moment, they are playing basketball. It’s just end to end and I don’t think top teams play like that.”

The pundit doubled down on his remarks following the Chelsea defeat, suggesting Slot must urgently address Liverpool’s lack of structure and defensive balance if the team is to compete at the highest level this season.

With the international break now offering a brief pause in fixtures, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see whether Slot can stabilise his side and restore the tactical control that defined Liverpool’s best years under Jürgen Klopp.
