Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou has brushed off reports suggesting his tenure at the club is already a “lost cause,” insisting that he remains fully committed to turning things around despite a poor run of results.
Speaking after Forest’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park — their fifth loss in seven matches since his appointment — Postecoglou confirmed that he will hold talks with club owner Evangelos Marinakis regarding his future this week.
The Australian manager, who took charge just last month, is under growing pressure as Forest continue to struggle in the Premier League. However, he struck a defiant tone when asked about the mounting speculation surrounding his job security.
“I expect to have a discussion with the owner and everyone at the football club about what we’ve embarked on here and where we’re at, for sure,” Postecoglou said. “If people want to make an assessment on me after three and a half weeks, there’s nothing I can do about that. At the same time, there’s nothing wrong with things being tough — it’s OK.”
Postecoglou emphasized his resilience and determination, making it clear that he thrives under pressure. “I had an option — I could’ve been sitting on a couch watching the game today and not been in the middle of it. I would much rather be here. I love a fight. So what if it’s a struggle? It’s OK!” he said.
He further stated that external opinions, or even internal doubts, will not deter him from his vision for Nottingham Forest. “If people outside don’t think I’m the right person — or even internally don’t think that — it makes no difference to me. I took this role knowing it would be a massive challenge, and nothing I’ve seen in the last three and a half weeks has changed my view on that.”
The former Tottenham and Celtic boss remains confident that he can rebuild Nottingham Forest and lead them in the right direction, despite the early setbacks. “I love the challenge of taking this club to where it needs to be. I’m very confident we’ll get there,” he added.
Forest fans will be hoping his fighting spirit translates into results as the club looks to climb out of their current slump and regain form in the coming weeks.
