Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a stern warning to the United States, cautioning that plans to deliver Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine could completely undermine the fragile relations between Moscow and Washington.
Speaking on Sunday, Putin stated that discussions are ongoing in Washington about sending new, long-range, high-precision weapons — including Tomahawk missiles — to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. He warned that such a move would “destroy Russian-American relations,” or at the very least, erase the “positive momentum” that had recently started to build between the two nations.
“There have been discussions about delivering new weapons systems to Ukraine, including Tomahawks. Such a move would destroy Russian-American relations or the positive momentum that has only just begun to emerge,” Putin said.
When asked if Western leaders would take his warning seriously, the Russian president remarked that it was up to European leaders to decide how to respond. He added that his remarks at the Valdai Discussion Club clearly outlined Russia’s position on the matter.
Earlier, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed during an interview with Fox News that the White House is considering supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, although the final decision lies with the president.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s stance, declaring that any shipments of Western weapons to Ukraine would be viewed as legitimate military targets. He also accused Western nations of escalating tensions and obstructing potential peace negotiations.
The proposed delivery of Tomahawk missiles marks a potential turning point in the ongoing war, one that could further strain diplomatic ties between Washington and Moscow while intensifying the conflict in Eastern Europe.
