Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has raised alarm over Nigeria’s rapidly growing population, warning that failure to act now could lead to a crisis far more severe than the ongoing insurgency.
Speaking on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Bakhita ICT Centre at the Catholic Secretariat in Sokoto State, Obasanjo stressed that by 2050, Nigeria could face the challenge of providing food, jobs, and opportunities for an estimated 400 million people.
“If we fail to prepare for that now, Boko Haram of today will be a child’s play,” Obasanjo cautioned.
He emphasized that education and knowledge are the strongest tools for Nigeria’s survival and sustainable development. The former president further called on Nigerians to embrace unity in diversity and resist divisive narratives being pushed by external influences.
Obasanjo’s remarks serve as a reminder of the urgent need for proactive planning, investment in education, and economic strategies to secure Nigeria’s future stability.
