U.S. President Donald Trump began his historic second state visit to the United Kingdom on Wednesday, touching down at Stansted Airport before being greeted by King Charles in a display of royal pageantry.

Trump and his wife, Melania, later arrived at Windsor Castle, the world’s oldest and largest occupied castle, which has been home to British monarchs for nearly 1,000 years. The couple received the royal red-carpet treatment, complete with a carriage procession, gun salutes, a military flypast, and a lavish state banquet.

British officials have described the welcome as the largest military ceremonial reception for a state visit in living memory, underscoring the significance of the occasion.

Trump, who has long expressed admiration for the British monarchy, made history as the first U.S. president—and indeed the first elected politician—to be invited twice for such visits by a reigning British monarch. Speaking upon his arrival, he praised the U.K. warmly. “It’s a very special place,” he told reporters.

The visit, however, is also expected to draw demonstrations, with planned protests coinciding with discussions on technology investments, international cooperation, and security.

Trump’s second state visit highlights both the close ties between Washington and London and the heightened attention surrounding his continued influence on the global stage.
