The conflict in the Middle East escalated sharply on Tuesday after the Israeli Air Force launched airstrikes in Doha, Qatar, targeting the senior leadership of Hamas. The strikes, which shook the Qatari capital with loud explosions and plumes of smoke, marked an unprecedented extension of Israel’s military campaign into a Gulf state.
According to reports, Hamas’ top political leaders survived the attack, raising questions about the operation’s planning and intelligence. A senior Hamas official confirmed to Al Jazeera that the group’s leadership remained unharmed.
The airstrikes sparked immediate global backlash. The White House issued rare public criticism of Israel’s actions, while key regional powers, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, condemned the assault. Analysts warn that the move could inflame already heightened tensions across the region.
Qatari authorities confirmed casualties from the strikes. The country’s Interior Ministry announced that Corporal Bader Saad Mohammed Al Humaidi Al Dosari, a member of the Internal Security Force, was killed, while several others sustained injuries. The explosions reportedly struck an area of Doha that is both densely residential and home to numerous foreign embassies, further fueling diplomatic concerns.
The strike on Doha underscores the widening scope of Israel’s multifront conflict and raises fears of broader regional destabilization, as Qatar has historically served as a mediator in negotiations between Hamas and other international actors.
