Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade, has stirred conversations after sharing his candid views on the clash between religious obligations and professional responsibilities. Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the respected actor recalled a 2013 incident where he was advised by his church to inform movie producers not to schedule him for work on Sundays.

Solade revealed that he outrightly rejected the idea, stressing that his career cannot be placed on hold for religious commitments. “If you see me in church, is that how we are filming?” he asked rhetorically, expressing his disapproval of such expectations.

The actor further disclosed that he confronted the pastor who made the suggestion, arguing that it was unfair for the church to interfere with his livelihood. According to him, the same work the church was asking him to forgo is what enables him to support the church financially.

“There’s no way in the Bible that Sunday, in the Greco-Roman calendar, was set aside for people to abandon their responsibilities. And you’re telling me to leave my source of livelihood? You want to ruin my career?” Solade said.

He went on to criticize how many Nigerians prioritize religious activities over business or work, narrating an incident with an elderly technician who failed to deliver service after collecting money from him because he was in church. Solade remarked that the technician even donated part of the money he was paid to the church, insisting that any blessings from such a contribution should rightfully belong to him since it was his earnings.

The veteran actor concluded that while he respects faith, he believes religion should not be allowed to disrupt personal or professional growth.
